Speeding along the M1 on my long drawn out journey from London to a small recording studio in Castleford, West Yorkshire,  In order to meet the latest in a long line of “Girls band’s” with high aspirations of making it big in the music industry.  I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, sceptical of what would make them the next big thing.

  My fears were unfounded once I had arrived and was led into a small room, where there were four of the five pieces that make up The Bon Bonz.

Arctic Monkeys

Sometimes you have to slow up or take a detour to get to your next destination – as Alex Turner learned on the way to the Arctic Monkeys’ third album, “Humbug” (Domino), released a few months ago.
   
        The band’s singer and songwriter, Turner was barely 20 in 2006 when he suddenly found himself in England’s biggest band. Less than two years later, the Sheffield quartet had released two best-selling albums (“Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” and “Favourite Worst Nightmare”), but the whirlwind of recording and constant touring had taken its toll. The band’s original bassist, Andy Nicholson, quit in 2006 (replaced by Nick O’Malley), and Turner acknowledges that “by the time we got done touring the second album, we were a bit burned out. There wasn’t the energy we had before.”

        Turner says the success of “Whatever People Say I Am …” was almost too much too soon.
